Google or Yahoo Redirect Virus
Is your browser search redirecting, do you think you have the
"Google or Yahoo Redirect Virus" or does your search continually go to advert
pages instead of the page you were looking for. If it does then your
browser is hijacked at the root.
Follow the steps below to check for and fix the virus
-
Navigate to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
-
Right click the file named hosts and make sure if you are using XP that
you un-check read only or if you are using Vista or Windows 7 then
you run as administrator
-
Now open the file with Notepad or Wordpad and delete all look for
the line including
"127.0.0.1 localhost" delete any other instances of local
hosts with different numbers as these are the re-direct problem
-
Now select save and agree to overwrite the file
-
If the file cannot be wrote over then delete the file using
unlocker this will delete files that are being used by other
programs and create a new file using the instructions
here, this link also has an automatic fix that may work on your
system
-
I also suggest you use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer it is
safer, faster and more stable
