Messenger

Windows Live Messenger
and unclick any additional options you do not want to use that may slow down
your system.
- Download old/previous versions of MSN Messenger
if you are having trouble with Windows Live Messenger
- If you are having trouble with Windows Live Messenger then
to go to a list of all the previous versions to download then once you sign in
ignore the update for any newer versions.
- Create a new live mail e-mail address or register your own email address
to use on messenger
- You can create a new email address to use on windows live
messenger or if you prefer you can use any email address you already have.
Register here and select either "sign up for a free MSN hotmail account" or
select "use and e-mail address you already have"
- Delete your Windows Live
Messenger/Hotmail/Windows Live ID/Windows Mail account
- Click this link
CLOSE ACCOUNT and sign into the account you want to delete then confirm
you want to delete the account. When you
are satisfied that you understand the terms associated with an account
closure, click Close Account. This is not permanent and can be undone by
signing into your account and reactivating it before 120 days of closure.
You will however lose all your emails stored in the account and any mail
sent to the account while closed will bounce back to sender. If you reactivate the account your mail will also be reactivated and can be used again
- Transfer Old Contacts To
New Account
- Before you delete an account if you want to transfer all your contacts
then sign into your old messenger account and save the contacts by going to
the contacts tab, scroll down to save contacts and save the file to your
desktop. Sign out of your messenger and sign in with your new ID and go to
the contacts tab, scroll down to import and browse for the file you saved to
the desktop. Your old contacts will now be in the new list.
- Cannot sign into Windows Live Messenger/Hotmail/Windows Live ID/Windows Mail
- Try signing into
MSN Account Services to check your
password is correct and that it is not just the messenger service that is being
blocked. If you can sign into account services
then your problem could be your firewall or router block just the Live Messenger.
If you cannot sign into MSN Account Services then you need the
reset password option. If you cannot remember your secret question or answer and have not setup an
alternative email address then use the
windows live validation form to recover your email account.
- Uninstall Windows Live Messenger
- To uninstall messenger you should be able to go to add/remove
programs and remove it from there, however sometimes messenger is not in the
list and has to be removed manually. To remove messenger or to re-install if
you are having problems then download the most recent
Windows Live Messenger
download and unclick
the messenger entry in the list and this will remove messenger using the install
utility.
- Windows Live Messenger Virus Fix
- If you keep automatically sending links and files to people
through messenger then you probably have a virus relating to your messenger. One
of the main reasons this happens is if you have put your email address and
password into a site not authorised by Microsoft i.e. block checker sites etc.
Sites like this DO NOT work and actually store information of people that fall
for the scam and enters their details. To fix this you need to follow all the
steps below.
- Fix - 1st Step
- Uninstall windows live messenger and then sign into
MSN Account Services
and change your password and your secret question so no bots can automatically
sign you into your account.
- Fix - 2nd Step
- Scan your pc for viruses, if you don't have virus protection
then you can download a free
version. Also download and run free
Malwarebytes. These programs will remove any virus on your system.
- Fix - 3rd Step
- Go to Start, run and type regedit and navigate to
-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
- Now delete any instance in the right hand column named
"rdfhost" and "rdihost" and "rdshost"
- Restart your computer and search for and delete "photo
album.zip" and "rdfhost.dll" and "rdihost.dll" and "rdshost.dll" (restarting is
important as the files will still be in use until you restart)
- Fix - 4th Step
- Re-install windows live messenger by using the official
Windows Live Messenger
download.
- Prevent it happening again
- To prevent this happening in the future DO NOT enter your
email address and password on any other site and once messenger is installed and
you sign in using your new password then make sure you
- DO NOT click on any link or file sent to you unless you
confirm first by the sender that they have sent it and not an autobot.
- Ignore all emails from your contacts that try
recommending sites to you that request signing in using your email address and
password, these are all scams and there to steal your details. Recommend this
link to your friends if you do receive this type of email as they have a virus
on their machine or account.
- Always keep the virus protection you installed up to date and
active at all time and run Malwarebytes at least once a month.
